FARMstead ED turns 10, and growing… by Katy Budge FARMstead ED is celebrating its 10th year of connecting local farmers and ranchers with both tourists and townies. Founded by county native Lynette Sonne, the organization promotes on-site, hands-on experiences to educate locals and visitors alike about the often-overlooked importance of agriculture. As early as 2005, Sonne had begun working with county agricultural producers to help raise awareness about locally grown and locally made. So many of us celebrate the arrival of the Autumn Equinox as not only a sign of the changing of seasons, but the anticipation of the annual Windrose Farm Tomato Festival. As we continue to learn new steps, dance to new life tunes, we seek out new and authentic ways to celebrate the fruits of our farmers labor. We are so fortunate that we have so many wonderful crops & commodities grown here locally for us all to savor & enjoy! For the past 2 months our area has been a buzz with tractors pulling big bins filled to the brim with beautiful grapes from the vineyards, walnut & almond trees "knocked" for their fruit, and olive groves shaken and combed for what will soon become liquid gold. This is THE time...the time that all the fruits of our farmer's labor all year, and results for what Mother Nature delivered, are harvested, picked & gathered, to then be taken to market. For...
