One of the biggest challenges agriculture faces is that our local family farms are becoming an endangered species. Between the rising costs of labor and supplies, and the tightening of government regulations and challenges, our small farms have a tough go of staying in business - one big reason why younger generations are not taking on the family farm. Agritourism helps bridge the financial gap by creating an additional revenue source for the farm owners while educating the public on where their food comes from and how its grown. People want to meet their farmers and shake the hands that feed them!

PASO ROBLES — Over 20 farms opened their gates to the community this past weekend for the FARMstead ED Open Farm Days. The weekend-long event kicked off with the second annual Open Farm Days Kickoff Marketplace in Paso Robles City Park.
Founded in 2014, FARMstead ED is a nonprofit dedicated to bringing the community closer to our local farms. Open Farm Days is their largest fundraising event of the year. The weekend was a chance for farms to open their gates and welcome visitors to participate in tours, demonstrations, tastings, and educational classes. On Friday night, locals and tourists filtered into the park to learn about the week-long event and speak to local farmers and makers first-hand.
FARMstead ED founder Lynette Sonne said of this year’s event, “We were excited to welcome more vendors and guests at this year’s Open Farm Days Kick-off, the Friday Night Marketplace. It was a very diversified representation of our locally grown and made.”
Open Farm Day is 2 weeks away, do you have route planned?🚜🐔🍉

Join Lynette Sonne On FARMstead ED's Farm Trail Lynette created FARMstead ED in 2014 after having an aha! moment one day while riding horses on her friend’s cattle ranch. “People had been coming to me and asking questions like, ‘where did that great steak come from?’ and ‘where did you get that yummy honey?’ and ‘ah these salads are so great!’” Lynette realized that many people didn’t know the origins of SLO CAL's delicious foods were sourced from local family farms. And while Farm-to-Table has been a popular concept, most people weren’t getting out to the farms and didn’t know how the...
